Abstract:

Increasing energy demand throughout the world has increased the use of non-renewable fossil-based energy sources and this has led to environmental problems. The amount of CO2 and greenhouse gases emitted to the atmosphere as a consequence of the energy consumed in industry, buildings and transportation increases with each passing day. The use of renewable energy sources in buildings should be made possible to reduce the share of energy consumption and environmental problems caused by buildings. Solution-oriented approaches to this issue are in the direction of energy efficient design of buildings and energy efficient improvement of existing buildings. In this study, the energy efficient improvement of 24 classrooms-type educational building project, which is one of the public buildings that constitute an important part of the building stock, is discussed in Samsun climate conditions. The energy efficient improvement of the building has been provided by the suggestions developed through the building shell, where heat losses and gains occur intensively. Double skin facade scenarios were produced in order to increase the energy efficiency of building shell by using technological and innovative approaches, heating, cooling, lighting and annual primary energy consumption of these scenarios were calculated. The most effective double skin facade scenario was obtained by comparing the results. Key Words: Energy-Efficient Improvement, Educational building, Double-Skin Facade System
