This research examines the travelogues of Italian travelers Niccolao Manucci and Pietro Della Valle. This study will examine Niccolao Manucci's travelogue Historie Générale de I'empire du Mogul and Pietro Della Valle's travelogue Viaggidi Pietro Della Vale il Pellegrino. These works are among the primary sources on the history of the Mughal Empire. The theme of the study is how religion, one of the cultural elements of the Mughal Empire, was described through the eyes of the Italians. As a hypothesis, this research focuses on the fact that Western travelers, in their works, could not escape their prejudices, albeit to varying degrees, against religions and belief systems other than their own. The study will also address the communication and approach of travelers from different religions towards the Muslim people. Manucci, one of the authors of the works to be examined in the research process, will be particularly useful in testing this hypothesis scientifically, as he provides very detailed and comprehensive information about the Mughals. To test and validate the research hypothesis, the notes of two travelers were selected for analysis. This research will primarily seek answers to the following questions: How did Italian travelers compare the Mughal state with contemporary Muslim states from a religious perspective? What were the Italian
travelers' views on the religious understanding of the Mughal rulers? According to Italian travelers, what was the approach of Mughal rulers to Islam and other religions and belief systems? According to the works of travelers, what was the approach of the Indian people during the Mughal period to religions and Mughal rulers? Did the works of travelers change the perspective of European rulers on the East?
