Abstract

In this study, the hardness and adhesion strength properties of unique design solid lubricant h-BN doped TiCrNbN coatings were investigated. High power impulse PVD was employed for deposition processes. The hardness of the coatings and the adhesion strength to the substrate material were determined by micro-hardness and scratch tests, respectively. It was observed that these new perspective coatings increased the hardness of the substrate by approximately 250%. However, the highest scratch resistance value of the coatings was determined as 61N. The hardness and adhesion strength values of the coating with high substrate bias voltage were superior. This was due to the high energy ions making the coating denser and compact.
