Effect of Leading-Edge Tubercules on Flow around NACA 0015 Airfoil at Re = 1x105

An experimental study was carried out to investigate the effects of leading-edge tubercles on NACA 0015 airfoil in a subsonic low turbulence wind tunnel. This study aims to measure lift and drag forces on the flow around NACA 0015 airfoil having different amplitude modulation (tubercles) at the leading edge for the Reynolds number of 1.0x105. This airfoil having a chord of 150 mm and a spanwise length of 450 mm was manufactured from PLA material with the help of the 3D printer. Three different leading-edge tubercles and a baseline NACA 0015 airfoil are used in this study. Force measurements were carried out with the help of a load cell at different angles of attack between 0°-30°. A little increase in drag and a little reduction in the lift has been found for this airfoil having amplitude modulation as compared to the baseline foil. The airfoil with the amplitude modulation showed better performance at the post-stall as compared to the baseline airfoil.
