PRIVACY IN TRADITIONAL HOUSES IN THE SOUTHEASTERN ANATOLIA REGION

Özet

Privacy is an essential part of human life and it is also an indispensable part of daily life. Privacy which is changes in accordance with the situation in which people are involved, the type of action they take, and the privacy that varies depending on who is involved in the relationship; four different levels of privacy have been mentioned such as personal, individual, social and public. In social life, privacy as a mechanism to regulate human relations, it is influential in the regulation of lifestyle and physical environment. Houses are private spaces that reflect the spatial formation of privacy. In this context, there are arrangements for various levels of privacy in housing planning. In the article which has aimed at examining the effects of privacy on the formation of traditional houses in the Southeastern Anatolia, the traditional housing of the Southeastern Anatolian Region has been analyzed and the houses have been examined in terms of settlement patterns, plan schemes, location types and frontal features. The article is based on three steps. In the first step, a conceptual infrastructure has been created. In the second step, examples that reflect the traditional housing typology and character/feature of the Southeastern Anatolia Region have been identified and visual documents related to these examples have been provided in the literature. In the final step of the study; the effects of the formation of privacy in the traditional houses, which have been discussed in the context of the residential character, the space variety and the space syntax, and the frontal. The spatial diversity and the syntactic analysis has been carried out by using access graphs. The residences of the districts are in residential character; adjoining, inward-facing and courtyard-shaped. The plan layouts of the houses consist of open, semi-open and closed spaces arranged around a central courtyard. Frontal sides facing the street in the houses are blind and the rooms are facing courtyards. In the Southeast Anatolian region, the formation of traditional houses has been influenced by factors such as climate and topography as well as privacy as a socio-cultural factor. It is possible to see the reflection of privacy in the form of housing in the dimensions of the settlement texture, in the organization of the space, in the characteristics of frontal side of houses, in the space variety and usage.
