Özet

Mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) has become a frequently used wall type for 40 years due to its flexibility, high performance against seismic effects, easy application and competitive costs. The primary reasons for preference are that they can be easily designed on the weak soils in terms of bearing capacity and settlement, as well as being built at great heights. However; the search for more economical design of mechanically stabilized earth walls at great heights has led to the idea of tiered mechanically stabilized earth walls. Various researchers have suggested different approaches depending on the width of the tier for the design of tiered mechanically stabilized earth walls. The walls can be designed by assuming to make up independent parts or a single wall depending on the width of the tier. In this respect, numerically investigation of the effect of the tier width will be useful for understanding the behavior of such walls. Therefore, numerical models were developed to evaluate the behavior of mechanically stabilized earth walls with various tier widths and the effects of tier widths were tried to be investigated. As a result, it has been determined that the tier width is a very effective on tensile forces of reinforcements in such walls.
