Özet

ABSTRACT

As an alternative abrasive, use of White Fused Alumina (WFA) in abrasive waterjet (AWJ) cutting of marble is investigated in this study. The performance of the WFA is compared with the garnet which is widely used as an abrasive in the AWJ cutting applications. Marble samples are cut with the constant operating variables of the AWJ (traverse speed, abrasive mass flow rate, waterjet pressure and standoff distance). The cutting performances of these two abrasives are evaluated based on some performance outputs including the cut depth, kerf width, kerf angle and surface roughness. The results show that the WFA can be effectively used as an alternative to the garnet in the AWJ cutting of rock such as marble.
