Urban Histories Research Group

Urban Histories Research Group is a multidisciplinary research community that aims to examine the development, transformation, and evolution of the physical fabric of cities over time. The group seeks to go beyond a historiographical approach limited to architectural structures that have survived to the present day, and instead aims to evaluate multiple types of sources in conjunction, approaching cities from a holistic perspective.

Urban history studies contribute to a wide range of fields, including architecture, urban planning, history, archaeology, museology, art history, cultural heritage, conservation, and tourism, and serve as a guide for research conducted in these domains. In this regard, the Urban Histories Research Group attaches importance to developing collaborations with researchers working in the field, as well as with public institutions and non-governmental organizations, with the aim of producing research outputs with high academic and societal value, and carrying out solution-oriented studies.

By relating the physical fabric of cities, as it has evolved from past to present, to social dynamics, the research outputs produced with this aim will provide guidance in the development of more informed, socially responsive, and historically sensitive solutions for contemporary urban contexts.
