Özet

This study investigates the Leave campaign in the European Union (EU) referendum and focuses Vote Leave and UKIP that emerged as pro-leave actors constructing the referendum debate. The sample of the study is the debates on Turkiye's accession to the EU. The primary aim of the study is to illuminate pro -leave actors' efforts to legitimise the Brexit decision by revealing the EU representations that these actors constructed through Eurosceptic discourses on Turkiye's accession. The study adopts the discourse-historical approach as a research method. The findings demonstrate that the prospect of Turkiye's membership was instrumentalised, and the EU and the continuation of the United Kingdom's EU membership were problematised in pro-leave discourses. This, in turn, paved the way for the Brexit decision by reproducing Euroscepticism discursively.
