Özet

The settlements of the Jeddah Grain Silo (Saudi Arabia) which has raft foundations system on sand were computed mainly with Menard method and the finite difference method. From the comparison of the measured and computed settlements, it was found that Menard method overestimated settlements and the finite difference method underestimated settlements. On the other hand, the finite difference method is in a better agreement with the measured values than Menard method in terms of the shape of the settlement distribution. The main contribution in this study is that an alternative method (the finite difference method) is introduced against so called unique method (Menard method).
