Abstract

The aim of this paper is to review the structure of the fishing fleet of Turkey in relation to fish production over the years of 2002 to 2014. Due to trend of decrease in fish production the government has taken some precautionary measures to protect marine fish stocks. One of these is to reduce the fishing effort by means of reducing the number of fishing vessels. A new policy in line with this aim was first introduced in 2013. Efficiency and negative futures of this policy for the fishers are discussed.
