Polyamidoxime (H2L) and its transition metal complexes have been synthesized using 1,4-bis(5-aminobenzimidazole)butane, which bas been obtained from 1,4-bis(5-nitrobenzimidazole)butane and (E, E)-dichloroglyoxime in absolute ethanol. Nickel(II), cobalt(II) and cobalt(III) complexes Of H-2L have a metal:ligand ratio of 1:2 and the ligand coordinates through the N atoms, as most of the (E, E)-dioximes. [Co(HL)2(L')Cl] has been prepared with L'= pyridine, 2,6-dimethylpyridine, 2-mercaptopyridine, triphenylarsine and thiophene, together with a chloride ions as axial ligands. The structures of the polyamidoxime metal complexes have been characterized by H-1-NMR, IR and elemental analysis data.
