Özet
Weirs are among the oldest hydraulic structures constructed for various purposes, such as flood control, discharge measurement, reduction of channel discharge, lowering of water levels, and regulation of free-surface flows. Weirs can be classified in various ways based on different characteristics. These classifications may be made according to the position of the weir axis relative to the main flow direction, the intended use, the ratio of crest length to upstream head, the weir geometry, the plan geometry, and the flow conditions over the weir. Weirs classified according to these different characteristics significantly influence the hydraulic behavior of the flow and give rise to distinct flow characteristics. Consequently, variations in weir geometry and flow conditions can increase the complexity of the hydraulic problems under study and necessitate different solution approaches for each weir type. Various methods are employed in the design of these structures and the determination of discharge coefficients. Among these, open-channel experiments and computational fluid dynamics software are frequently preferred methods. The objective of studies employing these methods is to understand the behavior of the flow passing over weirs and to determine discharge coefficients for discharge calculation. In these studies, the parameters investigated regarding their effects on discharge capacity are weir geometry, main channel flow conditions, Froude number, weir height and length, inlet geometry, channel geometry, and downstream conditions
