The work named “Nuzhat al-Qulûb” one of the important works of his period and written by Hamd-allāh Mustawfī was translated from Persi- an into Ottoman Turkish under the name of the Translation of the Nuzhat al-Qulûb in the 17th century. With this study, our aim is to introduce the work named the Translation of the Nuzhat al- Qulûb to the world of science, as well as to cont- ribute to the language research of the 17th century Ottoman Turkish. This work, translated for the governor of Bitlis Abdal Khan bin Ziauddin Khan before 1650, contains important information that can shed light on different branches of science. The work, which is encyclopaedic, consists of different sections. Among these sections, the ge- ography section constitutes our research subject. The geography section has remarkable details in terms of being the section with the highest num- ber of leaves and the information it gives about different geographies in that period (latitudes and longitudes of settlements, plants and fruits grown, climatic conditions, physical and psychological structures of people, income sources, etc.). Our study was formed as three main titles and sub-tit- les related to them. In the first part, we tried to give detailed information about the Persian origi- nal of the work, Nuzhat al-Qulûb, in the second part, the Translation of the Nuzhat al-Qulûb, and in the third part detailed information on the geog- raphy section of the work, the Translation of the Nuzhat al-Qulûb, which constitutes the essence of our research. The study was terminated with the evaluations made in line with the information obtained.

Kendi döneminin önemli eserlerinden biri olan ve Hamdullah Müstevfî tarafından yazıl- mış olan Nüzhetü’l-Kulûb adlı eser, 17. yüzyılda Farsçadan Osmanlı Türkçesine Tercüme-i Nüz- hetü’l-Kulûb adıyla tercüme edilmiştir. Bu çalış- mayla amacımız Tercüme-i Nüzhetü’l-Kulûb adlı eseri ilim dünyasına tanıtmanın yanı sıra 17. yüz- yıl Osmanlı Türkçesi dil araştırmalarına katkıda bulunmaktır. 1650’den önce Bitlis Bey’i Abdal Han bin Ziyaeddin Han için tercüme edilmiş olan bu eser, değişik ilim dallarına ışık tutabilecek ma- hiyette önemli bilgileri ihtiva etmektedir. Ansik- lopedik nitelikte olan eser, değişik bölümlerden oluşmaktadır. Bu bölümlerden coğrafya bölümü araştırma konumuzu teşkil etmektedir. Coğrafya bölümü, varak sayısı en fazla olan bölüm olma- sı ve o dönemdeki değişik coğrafyalar hakkın- da verdiği bilgiler (yerleşim yerlerinin enlem ve boylamları, yetişen bitkiler ve meyveler, iklim şartları, insanlarının fiziksel ve psikolojik yapı- ları, gelir kaynakları v.b.) yönünden kayda değer ayrıntılara sahiptir. Çalışmamız kapsam olarak üç ana başlık ve bunlara bağlı alt başlıklar şeklinde oluşturulmuştur. Birinci bölümde, eserin Farsça aslı olan Nüzhetü’l-Kulûb, ikinci bölümde, Ter- cüme-i Nüzhetü’l-Kulûb, üçüncü bölümde ise araştırmamızın özünü oluşturan Tercüme-i Nüz-hetü’l-Kulûb’un Coğrafya Bölümü üzerinde de- taylı bilgi verilmeye çalışılmıştır. Ulaşılan bilgiler doğrultusunda yapılan değerlendirmelerle çalış- ma sonlandırılmıştır.
