Özet

The ongoing search of sustainable and high-performance construction materials urges the investigation of bio-based admixtures. This research investigates the functionalization of cement composites using unmodified pine rosin (GR) and modified rosin ester: Pentaerythritol Ester of pine Rosin (PER)). This esterified derivative, selected for its enhanced thermal stability and compatibility, was incorporated at 0.5% and 1.5% by cement weight) to evaluate its potential as multifunctional performance modifier rather than cement replacement. The impact on both fresh (viscosity, setting time) and hardened state properties. The composites were assessed for mechanical performance (compressive strength), hygroscopic behavior (porosity, wettability, capillarity), and volume stability. The distinct chemical profile of PER, derived from natural pine rosin and processing imparted differentiated effects on the cement matrix studied by SEM/EDS. The research aims to identify the optimal rosin ester and dosage for enhancing hydrophobicity and to elucidate the underlying mechanism by which each admixture’s organic chemistry modifies the composite’s microstructure and final properties. This comparative analysis is a pre-liminary work that provides a critical foundation for the tailored application of specific rosin esters in developing advanced, eco-efficient cementitious materials.
