Fossil fuel use and related carbon dioxide emissions: A global perspective

Abstract

The energy resources have been split into three categories: fossil fuels, renewable, and nuclear resources. Among these, the world relies heavily on fossil fuels to meet its energy requirements. They provide over 80% of the global energy demands. However, the fossil fuels are the largest global source of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Renewable and nuclear resources, therefore, are capable of being a substitute for fossil fuels since they services with zero and/or almost zero emissions of both air pollutants and greenhouse gases. In this paper, global status of fossil fuel use and reserves are reviewed. Additionally, fossil fuel-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions over the period of 1990 to 2035 are globally examined.
