In this study, Al2024-SiC nanocomposite samples produced by powder metallurgy method were machined by wire discharge electric machining method. The effect of changing SiC reinforcement amount on the surface and properties after machining was investigated. Al2024 was used as matrix material and SiC ceramic particles in varying amounts in nano size were used as reinforcement particles. 0 to 4% by weight of SiC was added as the reinforcement amount. A high-energy ball mill was used to mix the reinforcement particles into the matrix. The powders were mixed together under an argon atmosphere for 8 hours at 400 rpm. The powder mixture, which was poured into a mold after mixing, was bulked under 500 MPa pressure with the help of a hot press and then sintered at 560 °C. The nanocomposites obtained after sintering were machined with WED machining in certain parameters. SEM and EDS analyzes of the surfaces obtained after machining were performed. In addition, Brinell hardness measurements were taken to show the change in mechanical properties before and after machining. In addition, material loss rates during machining were also measured. Finally, the effect of the amount of reinforcement particles on the surface properties was investigated by measuring the surface roughness after machining.
