As a preliminary study predesilication of wheat straw with different chemicals such as NaOH, Na2CO3 + Na2SO4 and HF at high concentrations was examined. As a result of the data obtained, a three stage treatment with 1% NaOH was found to be the most convenient condition for desilication. In this case more than 73% silica could be removed under relatively mild conditions, so it can be said, that the silica problem encountered in cereal straw pulping can be radically solved by this treatment.
