IV Bio.Natural 2025 – Bioactive Natural Products Research Conference, Lisbon, Portekiz, 14 - 15 Temmuz 2025, ss.152, (Özet Bildiri)
It is estimated that the villages of Borçka (Artvin, Türkiye), which have a rich flora and cultural heritage, have a significant potential in terms of ethnobotany, and to our knowledge, there is no ethnobotanical study involving all villages of the district. This study aimed to determine and record the ethnobotanical uses of plants by local people in all villages of Borçka. In the field studies conducted thus far across various seasons between 2024 and 2025, face-to-face interviews were performed, and information was gathered from individuals who utilize plants for diverse purposes in the region through a semi-structured questionnaire. Plants with reported use were collected, and herbarium specimens were prepared. From the samples collected in the field studies, 75 plant species belonging to 47 families have been identified so far. Among the identified species, 46 are natural and 29 are cultivated plants. Plants are used for different purposes such as medicine, food, furniture, animal feed, and shelter. Other statistical data (Use Value (UV) for the relative importance of species, the Informant's Consensus Factor (FIC), and the Fidelity Level (FL) for medicinal plants) will be examined after all species are identified. This study, which investigates the ethnobotanical characteristics of the villages of Borçka, is crucial for documenting this traditional knowledge, which is gradually diminishing, and for ensuring its transmission to future generations. It also offers essential data for future ethnopharmacological research.
