Abstract

A novel tetraoxime 5,6:11,12-dibenzo-2,3,8,9-tetrakis(hydroxyimino)-1,4-dithia-7,10-diazacyclododecane (LH(4)) has been synthesized from the reaction of (E,E)-dichloroglyoxime and S,S'-bis(2-aminophenyl)dithioglyoxime, which has been prepared from the hydrochloride salt of 2-amino-thiophenol and cyanogendi-N-oxide Mononuclear and polynuclear cobalt(III) complexes of LH(4) were prepared with pyridine together with chlorine ions as axial ligands. In addition, the synthesis of a new polynuclear cobalt complex which contains the bridging BF2+ was achieved by using a hydrogen bonded polynuclear cobalt(III) complex. The hetero-polynuclear complex [CuCo(LB(2)F(4))L'Cl] was obtained by reaction of the BF2+-capped cobalt(III) complex with copper(II) acetate. The structure of the ligand and its complexes are proposed according to elemental analyses, H-1 and C-13 NMR, IR and mass spectral data.
