This study aims to analyze the aims of assessment process in the primary school mathematics curricula and tools applied in this process. The assessment approaches applied, the tools used for its aims and the appropriateness of these tools to the curricula were tried to be determined by analyzing 1(st) to 5(th) grade mathematics coursebooks, teacher's books, and student workbooks. Along with the aim of the study, a descriptive approach subtitle; case study method was applied. As a result of the study, the curricula and coursebooks were mostly proved to be competent in terms of aim of assessment and the tools used to reach these aims. In addition, it was also determined that assessment of skills like creativity, critical thinking and using information technologies were not properly mentioned in the books. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd.
