Özet

In this study, the effects of whey in various concentrations (5; 10; 25; 50 and 75%) on the growth and some growth parameters of Anacystis nidulans, Nannochloris sp. and Dunuliella tertiolecta were investigated. The composition of whey was found as 2.75 mg/l PO43-, 4.86 mg/l NO3., 0.033 mg/l NO2., 41 mg/l SO42-, 98 mg/l Na+, 11 mg/l K+. Biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) load were determined as 1600 mg/l and 5434 mg/l, respectively. Data showed that the best growth parameters for Anacystis nidulans, Nannochloris sp. and Dunaliella tertiolecta were obtained in the whey concentrations of 50%, 25%, 10%, respectively. It is concluded that whey has toxic effect at the high concentrations, however, it has beneficial effect at the lower concentrations. Thus, it is thought that the effect of environmental pollution of whey which is discharged from factory can be decreased and it can be used as a source for production of single cell protein.
