Özet
The chapter is an exploratory discussion of the real-time processing fundamentals and why it is a significant consideration in the current consumer electronics. It starts with the definition of some basic performance measures (latency, throughput, determinism, and responsiveness) of efficiency of real-time systems. The differences between the real-time processing and the batch processing are described, and the time priority and time consideration are given along with the nature of data flow. Contrasts are drawn between hard and soft real-time systems with a practical implication on reliability and safety of the operation of a device. The connection between real-time processing and embedded systems as well as edge computing is explored as one of the strategies to minimize delays and to enhance flexibility of systems. The chapter also looks into its application in terms of consumer electronics through the assistance of smartphones, tablets, and smart home devices. Illustration of some pieces of core enabling technology such as high-performance processors, optimized operating system, and low latency network are discussed, and their impacts on full system performance detailed. Such fields as health monitoring, biometric analysis, navigation systems, and autonomous vehicle features are discussed to show real-life applications and reveal the usefulness of such a technology. These issues are related to the scalability of systems, energy efficiency in real time, and cybersecurity in real time. Lastly, the chapter has sketched the future directions such as augmented real-time decision-making based on artificial intelligence and quantum-enhanced processing as the next frontiers in the field. This synthesis will offer both a theoretical and practical insight to the researchers, engineers, and technology developers.
