Özet

Chemical exposure incidents in EDs require a rapid and coordinated response to protect patients, healthcare personnel (HCP), and the surrounding environment. This chapter outlines critical protocols and strategies for isolating and managing patients exposed to chemical agents. Key aspects include the categorization of personal protective equipment (PPE) into four levels based on protection requirements, decontamination procedures, and the establishment of safe zones within the hospital environment. Chemical agents pose significant risks through inhalation, dermal contact, and ingestion, requiring tailored isolation measures. This chapter emphasizes the importance of training healthcare teams in the proper use of PPE and adherence to safety protocols to mitigate challenges such as heat stress, limited mobility, and communication barriers. Effective decontamination procedures, including pre-hospital measures and in-hospital protocols, are essential for preventing secondary contamination. The delineation of contaminated and clean zones, the use of portable decontamination units, and proper waste management further enhance safety. Through a systematic approach to isolation, decontamination, and emergency management, this chapter highlights the need for careful planning and real-time adaptability in chemical exposure scenarios. EDs can ensure the safety of both patients and staff while maintaining operational continuity by equipping healthcare teams with the knowledge and tools needed to manage such incidents.
