Erosion shield is an add-on structural component of helicopter rotor blade which is used in order to reduce the effect of solid particle erosion (SPE) phenomenon occurring during take-off and landing of helicopters. Ti-6Al-4V alloy, in this study, is evaluated as erosion shield material under different impact velocities (70, 150 and 200 m/s) and impact angles (20°, 30°, 45°, 60° and 90°). Angular shaped quartz sand particles with average 250 µm dimensions in diameter are used as erodent. Experiments are performed according to MIL-STD-3033 standard. Maximum erosion rate was observed at 20° impact angle while it increases with increasing impact velocity.
