Özet

Introduction: Paeonia, the only genus belonging to the Paeoniaceae family, is represented by 36 species in the world and 8 species in Türkiye. It has been recorded that Paeonia species are used in folk medicine for urinary system diseases, dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea, epilepsy, gastritis, and as purgative, stomachic, cholagogue, hepatoprotective, and blood stasis in the world and Türkiye. Numerous studies have shown that Paeonia species contain monoterpenoid glycosides, flavonoids, tannins, stilbenes, triterpenoids, steroids and phenols; and have antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitumor, neuroprotective and cardiovascular protective activity. This study aimed to carry out isolation studies on Paeonia wittmanniana. Material and Method: Isolation studies performed on the methanol extract prepared from the seeds and the fruits of P. wittmanniana by using various chromatographic methods. The structures of the obtained compounds were elucidated by 1H NMR, 13C NMR and 2D NMR spectral techniques. Results: Resveratrol 4′-O-β-glucoside (1), resveratrol (2), 2,4,6-trihydroxy-1-methyl benzoate (3), and betulinic acid (4) were isolated from the methanol extract of the seeds. 2,4,6-trihydroxy-1-methyl benzoate (3) was also isolated from the methanol extract of the fruits. Conclusion and Discussion: In this study, secondary metabolites were isolated from the seeds and the fruits of P. wittmanniana.
