Two species of Bacillus, B. thuringiensis and B. sphaericus were isolated from Hyphantria cunea and Pieris brassicae, respectively. These bacteria were identified and tested as a biological control agents against the hazelnut pests, Gypsonoma dealbana, Euproctis chrysorrhoea, Melolontha melolontha and Agelastica alni. B. thuringiensis and B. sphaericus have 93 and 29% insecticidal activities on G. dealbana, 58 and 37% on E. chrysorrhoea, 44 and 32% on M. melolontha and 24 and 38% on A. alni respectively.
