Waste resulting from rapid consumption and excessive production, which is one of the biggest problems of our age, endangers human and environmental health. To establish a sustainable life, it is a necessity to consider waste as a resource rather than a loss, and to create a sensitive environment for the materials that are about to be exhausted to reused. The study aims to emphasise the importance of recycling, reuse and reduction principles in waste material management based on furniture design. For this purpose, the response of the waste materials used and the characteristics of the materials in furniture as a design input and the direction that the boundaries created by the material gives to the design were examined. In this context, 24 different pieces of furniture were determined and the waste materials used in the furniture pieces were identified and the effect of the material on the furniture design was examined. At the end of the study, the benefits and drawbacks of using waste materials in furniture design were revealed by evaluating all the findings. It is among the most important benefits of the study that it raises the awareness of researchers and designers about the use and management of waste, and opens the way for other researches to be done.
