Özet

Because of its great benefits, including its ability to cut difficult-to-machine materials and its geometric flexibility, abrasive waterjet (AWJ) has recently gained popularity as a tool for mechanical machining. However, there is still a limit on the kerf quality for a single cut when utilizing this approach. Thus, in this study, a new strategy was employed to enhance the kerf quality beyond the previously attained limits. For this purpose, two natural stone samples from different origin were utilized and subjected to AWJ multi-pass cutting, which is based on single, double and multi cutting passes. In order to reveal the performance of the AWJ multi-pass cutting in different rock samples, the results were comparatively evaluated using the indicators such as the cutting depth, kerf width, kerf taper angle and surface roughness. It was concluded that the AWJ multi-pass cutting technique might significantly improve the AWJ technology's operational capabilities in processing different rock types, depending on the required level for the kerf profile.
