Abstract

This paper presents a review of recent studies on manufacturing of porous micro-structure arrays on large surface areas. This kind of surfaces are highly needed for enhanced heat transfer to provide increased surface area in space-, volume- and mass-limited integrated and compact applications such as power electronics, electronic cooling, micro-processors, micro-reactors, heat pipes and in fuel cells. In earlier works by authors, fabrication of 2-D and 3-D porous micro-scale surface structures using powder forming approach was realized. This paper aimed for complementary assessment and comparison of the surface types produced by authors thus far in terms of structural integrity, porosity, heat transfer capability.
