Abstract

In this study, the mechanical properties of Cu-316L composites produced by powder metallurgy

method were investigated. The particle sizes are 63 microns for 99.9% pure copper and 45 microns for the

reinforcement material 316L, respectively. Reinforcement amounts of the composites produced by powder

metallurgy method were determined as 1, 3, 5 and 10 wt.%, respectively. Raw powders were milled in a

ball mill for mechanical alloying at 400 rpm and 5:1 ball-powder ratio with the addition of 2% Stearic acid

as a process control agent for a total of 2 hours. After mechanical alloying, the composite powders were

pre-pressed in the mold, and then sintered in a protective argon gas atmosphere at 500 degrees for 2 hours

in a hot press device. The hardness, porosity, and tensile strengths of Cu-316L composites with different

reinforcement ratios fabricated by powder metallurgy method were examined and fracture surface

examinations were made.
