Özet

This study assessed frailty and fall risk in patients aged >_ 65 years with heart failure and their interrelation. Conducted from February to August 2023 in a northeastern Turkish university hospital's cardiology service, the descriptive, cross-sectional, correlational study included 312 patients aged >_ 65 years hospitalized for heart failure within the past year. Data were gathered via the Patient Information Form, the FRAIL Scale, and the Itaki Fall Risk Scale. The research report of the study followed the STROBE guidelines. Results indicated that 35.6 % of patients were frail. Demographic factors such as age, sex, education, activities of daily living, body mass index, chronic diseases, and medication count predicted frailty levels. Additionally, 83.7 % of patients exhibited a high fall risk. A significant correlation (p < 0.05) existed between the Itaki Fall Risk and FRAIL Scale scores, with all frail patients at high fall risk. Nurses should educate elderly heart failure patients on these issues. (c) 2025 Elsevier Inc. All rights are reserved, including those for text and data mining, AI training, and similar technologies.
