Effects of local entomopathogenic fungi on Halyomorpha halys (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae)

Özet

The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae), is an invasive agricultural pest native to East Asia. H. halys is a highly polyphagous pest that feeds on more than 300 host plant species. Current strategies to control H. halys are primarily based on the use of broad-spectrum insecticides, which despite their effectiveness in preventing pest infestations have only a short residual activity. Although the use of chemical insecticides has been successful in some cropping systems, it does not provide long-term, sustainable measures to control H. halys, so alternative methods should be developed and implemented. In this study, we investigated the efficacy of twenty local fungal isolates against the adult stage of H. halys at a concentration of 107 conidia/ml. The screening test showed that all fungal isolates were pathogenic. Isolates of Gg12 (M. brunneum), As18 (M. flavoviride), KTU24, Rh and Pa4 (B. bassiana) caused 100% mortality ten days after treatment. However, isolates of As18 and Pa4, which caused 70% and 78% mortality five days after treatment, were used in the concentrationresponse experiment and the LC50 values were estimated to be 1.4×103 and 6.2×104 conidia/ml, respectively. The results showed that B. bassiana Pa4 and M. flavoviride As18 could be a good candidate for the control of H. halys populations.
