In this study, particle size analysis, XRD
(X-ray Diffractometers), and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) analysis of
nickel and hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN) powders were subjected to mechanical
alloying at room temperature at 350 rpm for 1 hour using tungsten carbide balls
in a planetary grinding ball mill. While preparing the mixtures, 1-2-3 and 4%
by weight of h-BN was added to nickel. It was observed that Nickel and h-BN
peaks changed in the XRD analysis of the mixed powders after the grinding
process. It was observed that the powders changed shape and changed in particle
size in SEM examinations. Particularly in the mechanical alloying process, the
collisions between the powder particles ball-powder-mill and ball-powder-ball
surfaces subjected to ball milling caused changes in powder size.
