Özet

A significant share of global trade is carried by maritime transport. Ports play an important role in maritime transport. Therefore, ports need to adapt to changing conditions in order to remain competitive and maintain their efficiency and effectiveness. In this context, ports have had to undergo restructuring and transformation over time, moving towards digitalization and sustainability. The concept of the “smart port” has emerged from the transformation of traditional port structures into systems where automation and digitalization play an increasingly important role. In other words, traditional ports need to transform into smart ports to keep pace with developing technologies. Smart ports are ports where technologies such as automation, information and communication technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI) are effectively used in port operations. This study aims to provide a conceptual evaluation of the evolution of the smart port concept. In this context, the literature on the concept of smart ports has been reviewed, and the key features and stages in the technological transformation of ports have been discussed. In addition, the study considers the role of Industry 4.0, automation, digitalization, data-driven management, and smart systems in the development of smart ports. In this context, the study outlines the stages of the transition from traditional ports to new-generation smart ports and provides a general framework for evaluating the development of the smart port

approach.
