This study aims to examine forty seals preserved in the Trabzon Museum collection and dated to the Late Ottoman and Early Republican periods within the framework of the discipline of art history. Throughout history, seals have functioned not only as practical tools used for the authentication of official and personal documents but also as significant material culture objects reflecting the aesthetic understanding, social structure, and identity perception of the societies to which they belonged. The seals constituting the main material of the study have been evaluated in terms of form, material, production technique, script type, decorative characteristics, and areas of use. Qualitative research methods were adopted in the study; the objects were examined through direct observation, measurement, and description, their inscriptions were read through epigraphic analysis, and a typological classification was established. The examined examples are largely dated to the second half of the nineteenth century and the early twentieth century. It has been determined that silver and brass are the most commonly used materials in the collection, while circular and oval forms constitute the majority of the seals. In terms of script, the most frequently encountered calligraphic style is taʿlīq, alongside thuluth, and the use of the Latin alphabet in examples belonging to the Republican period. The findings obtained within the scope of the study indicate that the Trabzon Museum collection constitutes an important group of examples demonstrating the reflections of Ottoman seal art in Anatolia. In this respect, these seals contribute to the typological and epigraphic evaluation of the seal tradition extending from the Ottoman Empire to the Republican period.
