Graphite is recognized as a strategically significant raw material due to its numerous desirable
qualities, which make it appropriate for a wide range of industrial applications. This study aimed to apply
graphite on the paper surface with guar gum (GG), which is a natural polysaccharide known for its binding
properties, and to provide electrical conductivity to the paper in order to increase the variety of usage areas.
For this purpose, two different ratios of graphite, 5% and 10%, were used with 0.5% guar gum (GG) on
unbleached kraft papers. The application of the prepared solutions to the papers was carried out using the
coating method. The mechanical properties and electrical conductivity of the papers were assessed and the
limiting oxygen index (LOI) test and Cobb test determined the combustion behavior and water absorption
capacities of the papers, respectively. It was observed that the surface application of the papers significantly
increased their tensile and tear strengths compared to the control while maintaining their burst resistance.
The burning resistance properties of kraft papers treated with 10% graphite solution prepared with 0.5%
guar gum (GG) coating were enhanced and electrical conductivity properties were gained to the papers.
Papers which contain graphite will be a promising candidate for the production of lightweight and highperformance energy devices, and super capacitors due to its electrical conductivity.
