Anaerobic membrane bioreactors (anMBR) are used in wastewater treatment technology. These
reactors consist of two main elements. The first is a full-mix anaerobic reactor where biological treatment
takes place. The second element coming after the anaerobic reactor is the membrane where the ultrafiltration
(UF) process takes place. The membranes used in the water treatment applications are basically porous walls
and they act as the waste water filtering instrument. For the analysis the forward osmosis (FO) which is a
filtration process based on the chemical potential driving force between the feed and draw sides of the
membrane was considered. In the present study, the effect of draw to feed side velocity ratios on water
mass flux through the membrane and mean inlet velocity effect on the membrane performance for the
same draw and feed sides velocity were numerically investigated. It was fond that increasing draw mean
velocity increases the mass flux through the membrane. For the same draw and feed velocity up to 0.1 m/s
the mass flux tends to increase, whereas from 0.1 to 1 m/ s of the mean velocities the mass flux start to
decrease.
