Özet

Textile structural composites are penetrating into every industry such as aerospace, automotive,
construction, sporting goods, defense, safety and protective. Textile reinforced composites are replacing
other materials such as plastics, wood and metal in these industries. Two dimensional (2D) and three
dimensional (3D) textile structures, called performs, are used to reinforce the composites. The machinery
used to manufacture the textile performs for composite reinforcement is highly special and different than
traditional textile machinery to produce fabrics for conventional use. Higly complex machinery is used to
manufacture 2D and 3D woven, knit, braided and nonwoven perform structures. The design and
characteristics of these machines are discussed and explained including a patented machine that combines
weaving and knitting principles to produce novel 3D fabric structures.
