CROP PROTECTION, vol.204, pp.107591, 2026 (SCI-Expanded)
The brown marmorated stink bug (Halyomorpha halys) is a highly
invasive and polyphagous pest of East Asian origin, which has become a
significant threat to agricultural production worldwide. Its rapid
spread and broad host range have led to substantial economic losses in
various crops, including tree nuts, fruits, and vegetables. While
chemical insecticides have been the primary control method, their
environmental impact, the development of pest resistance, and concerns
regarding food safety necessitate the exploration of sustainable
alternatives. Biological control, particularly through the use of
natural enemies such as parasitoids and entomopathogens, offers a
promising and environmentally friendly approach. This review article
aims to synthesize current research on the natural pathogens and
parasitoids of H. halys in Türkiye, compare the local situation
with global efforts, highlight the importance of microbial control, and
detail the potential of various entomopathogenic agents (bacteria,
viruses, and fungi) for its management.
