Having not been examined the busbar sufficiently until now as a communication channel in the narrowband PLC communication increases the importance of this issue twice as much. Therefore, as a PLC communication channel, the channel characteristics of the busbar should be determined. The aim of this study is to investigate the characteristics of the busbar for the narrowband PLC applications. This study will be a step to estimate the necessary channel characteristics to correctly reveal and design the communication systems. For this purpose, the circuit parameters of the aluminum conductor series busbar system (S-parameters) are modelled and simulated with currently available software and measured experimentally. Then, narrowband propagation properties of a 630 A current level busbar from S-parameters are extracted to elucidate the PLC opportunities.
