Abstract

Lasers have been used in assisted reproduction with the purpose of manipulating the zona pellucida of embryos to perform assisted hatching, preimplantation genetic diagnosis, laser assisted ICSI (L-ICSI) and also immobilization of spermatozoa prior to ICSI and also for paralysis of spermatozoa for cryopreservation. L-ICSI is a safe, efficient, simple and easy procedure for routine use. It may prevent damage to the oocyte as demonstrated by a very high survival rates in many studies although conflicting results were presented in other studies. The literature also revealed conflicting results on the use of L-AH, some reporting significantly increased clinical pregnancy rates while others reported similar or decreased implantation and pregnancy rates. The introduction of laser technology seems to be a helpful to simplify the various technique of gamete and it would be more feasible following increase in the number of related articles.
