Metal matrix composites are increasingly used in industry due to their low density, high strength, high hardness, good corrosion resistance. However, metal matrix composites are difficult to machining with conventional methods due to their hardness from reinforcement particles. In this study, aluminum metal matrix hybrid nanocomposites reinforced with nano-sized B4C and SiC ceramic particles were machined by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) method. Micron-sized Al2024 was used as matrix material, and nano-sized B4C and SiC ceramic particles were used as reinforcement. Ceramic particles at 0, 1, 2, 3 and 4 wt.% ratios were added to hybrid nanocomposites by powder metallurgy method. WEDM method was applied to hybrid nanocomposites with fixed parameters (pulse-on time: 20 μs, pulse-off time: 37 μs and wire speed: 5 m/s). Post-machining surface characteristics and chemical analyzes of the obtained nanocomposites were performed using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). Hardness measurements were taken before and after machining of all hybrid nanocomposite samples. In addition, material removal rate (MRR) and surface roughness (SR) measurements of the Al2024-B4C/SiC hybrid nanocomposites were also made after machining. According to the results obtained, as the pre-machining reinforcement ratio increased, the hardness and SR values of the samples increased while MRR values decreased.
