A 3 year-old male patient presented with symptoms of inability to walk and nause during a primary varicella infection. On T2-weighted MRI images increased intramedullary signal intensity were found extending from the T11 to the L1 level. The patient improved clinically and radiologically with corticosteroid and acyclovir therapy.
