Özet

This study aims to point out the importance of adhesive type on strain measurement and examine the accuracy of the elasticity modulus determination using the electrical resistance strain gauges glued on solid materials. For this purpose, numerical analysis via finite element method was carried out to examine the adhesive type and thickness considering mechanical properties of adhesives. Numerical studies indicated that deformation levels significantly changed for different models of adhesive types widely used in strain gauge applications. Up to 51% strain loss was obtained through the numerical model for the adhesive interlayer. According to the obtained results from numerical analyses, thin adhesive layers with low elasticity modulus suggested the most proper results. These findings pointed out that adhesive type must be taken into account for electrical resistance strain gauge usage since there is no adhesive guide for users in standards.
