This study deals with terminal voltage control of a stand-alone synchronous generator using fuzzy logic based controller as a fuzzy voltage regulator (FVR) instead of classical automated voltage regulators (AVR). In order to obtain the simulated behavior of the synchronous machine more accurately, a dq axis transformation based model is preferred instead of reduced and linearized small signal models widely used in literature. A laboratory prototype experimental set-up consisting of a synchronous generator, a three-phase. resistor' ox, and a three-phase induction motor representing linear and nonlinear loads has been established in order to check the validation of the simulation model developed. The controllers in the experimental parts of this study are digitally implemented using a personal computer and a 12 bit PCL 818 data acquisition card with a speed rate of 100 kS/s.
