The purpose of this study is to examine the development of cursive handwriting of primary school first year students. The study was carried out with 117 first year students. A descriptive model was used in the study. The texts students wrote using cursive handwriting at the beginning and at the end of the first term and at the end of the second term were evaluated by means of "Cursive Handwriting Evaluation Form". It was found in the study that students did not develop in terms of the legibility while they developed in terms of writing speed. In the context of these findings, recommendations were made for teaching cursive handwriting in the first year of primary school.
