The main aim of this research is to find out the effect of analogy and laboratuary based instructions on student achievement about chemical equilibrium in comparasion with traditional instruction. Semi-experimental research method was used. The sample was composed of 65 students from a high school in Trabzon. The classes were randomly determined as two experimental groups and one control group. A concept Test, semi-structured interview and unstructured observation were used as data gathering instruments. At the end of the study a significant difference was found in favor of the laboratory group over analogy, and a significant difference was found in favor of the experimental groups over the control groups.
