Özet

In this work, the surface of paper was coated with starch mixed with styrene acrylate copolymer and and polyethylene glycol (PEG) and effects were evaluated in terms of mechanical and physical properties of paper. In addition to this, the effects of PEG on starch coating formulas were characterized by FTIR spectroscopy. The results showed that water absorption values (Cobb 60) decreased to approximately at rate of 31% comparing with reference coating solution coated papers, which contained only styrene acrylate copolymer. With this newly formulated surface sizing application, tensile strength of papers increased about 15% compared with reference.
