Microextraction Preconcentration and Spectrophotometric Determination of Platinum in Water Samples and Cisplatin

Özet

In this study, an effective microextraction method was optimized for the separation of trace levels of platinum ions in water samples and the cisplatin drug. A cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/1,2-dichloroethane combination was used in the method for the preconcentration of platinum. To demonstrate the feasibility of the method, CTAB was added to an acidic aqueous solution to coordinate with the negatively charged platinum ion (PtCl62−). The complex formed between PtCl62− and CTAB was extracted from the solution into the organic phase and monitored by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. After method validation, the calibration range (25–225 μg L−1), limit of detection (6.2 μg L−1), limit of quantitation (20.7 μg L−1), precision (3.3%), and preconcentration factor (70) were calculated. The complex and CTAB exhibit maximum absorbance values of 1.41 and 0.18, respectively, obtained from the calibration range after extraction. The developed method was successfully applied to water samples, yielding good recoveries in the range of 95–106%. The accuracy of the presented method was also evaluated by the determination of platinum concentration in cisplatin.
